We decided to call our small bakery ‘bread & roses’ in honour of Rose Schneiderman, an American socialist, feminist and one of the most prominent women labour union leaders of the 20th Century.
What the woman who labours wants is the right to live, not simply exist — the right to life as the rich woman has the right to life, and the sun and music and art. You have nothing that the humblest worker has not a right to have also. The worker must have bread, but she must have roses, too.
all our breads are fermented from 24 – 48 hours before being shaped by hand and baked for your pleasure
